Loma Prieta Slide Set - Slide 2. Block diagram, San Francisco Area tectonics: Santa Cruz sits on the Pacific Plate, which is moving north with respect to the North American Plate. The plate boundary in the Bay Area is rather diffuse, with motion along a number of faults: (from west to eat) the San Gregorio Fault, the San Andreas Fault, the Hayward Fault, and the Calaveras Fault. note Santa Cruz, located above the word Fault on the San Gregorio Fault.
